UKRAINIAN HELSINKI HUMAN RIGHTS UNION

The UHHRU is an association of human rights organizations aimed at continuing the tradition of the Helsinki movement in Ukraine. It was created on 1 April 2004 from 15 organizations and in 2006 was joined by seven more. The association’s aim is to defend human rights and fundamental freedoms through promoting the implementation of the humanitarian articles of the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe (the Helsinki Accords) signed in 975, other international documents adopted for the development of these principles, as well as all Ukraine’s committees in the area of human rights and freedoms. The UHHRU represents Ukraine in the International Helsinki Federation. The elected Head of the UHHRU is Yevhen Zakharov, Co-Chair of the Kharkiv Human Rights Protection Group.
