ACT OF DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE OF UKRAINE – a state act of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR, adopted on August 24, 1991, and confirmed by a national referendum on December 1, 1991. It proclaimed the independence of the sovereign Ukrainian state—Ukraine. From that day forward, the territory of Ukraine became indivisible and inviolable, and only the Constitution and laws of Ukraine are valid on its territory.
