The first directory of samizdat periodicals has arrived!

Periodicals

The guide, “Catalog of Samizdat Periodicals, 1956–1986,” is the first to compile information on the free periodical press in the post-Stalin USSR.

Electronic Archive of the Journal “Karta”

Periodicals

The Russian independent historical and human rights journal “KARTA” was published by the Ryazan “Memorial” Society from 1992 to 2007.

UKRAINIAN HERALD

Periodicals

In January 1970, the first samizdat periodical in Ukraine, the “Ukrainian Herald”—modeled after the CCE—began publication. However, unlike the CCE, the UH contained not only information about repressions and the situation of political prisoners but also presented works circulating in samizdat—historical research, data on the genocide of Ukrainians, literary studies, poetry, and prose.

A CHRONICLE OF CURRENT EVENTS

Periodicals

“A Chronicle of Current Events” (CCE) was published in Moscow from 1968-1982 (issues 1-64). It dispassionately and objectively provides information about human rights violations by the authorities.
