BUR , HEIGHTENED REGIME BARRACK
This was a form of extra punishment imposed on prisoners of general, heightened and special regimes. It was introduced in the 1920s. Prisoners were put into BUR for up to 6 months. They were locked up; made to work in a closed room, with walks in a courtyard; they received a reduced amount of food; could receive only one letter a month; parcels and visits were prohibited and they were only allowed to spend 3 roubles a month on extra food items (“laryok”)
