VISNYK REPRESIY V UKRAINI [BULLETIN OF REPRESSION IN UKRAINE]
VISNYK REPRESIY V UKRAINI [BULLETIN OF REPRESSION IN UKRAINE]. This was a monthly bulletin issued by the External Representation of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group. Its compiler and permanent editor was Nadiya SVITLYCHNA. It was published in New York from 1980 – 1985 in both Ukrainian and English with funding from the Ukrainian Diaspora. The bulletin provided up-to-date information about persecution in Ukraine and about prisoners and exiles, a list of those suffering persecution, references to persecution in the Ukrainian press, reminders of political prisoners’ birthdays, their addresses or those of their families, as well as a bibliography. In some issues documents from Ukrainian samvydav [samizdat] were also published. Each issue had been 20 30 pages, and an “Index of names” was published each year. “Visnyk” also put out a series of “Portraits of contemporaries” (for example, brochures of Yury LYTVYN and Yury BADZIO.).
The hearings on human rights violations in Ukraine which took place in the US Congress were largely based on information from “Visnyk represiy”.
